I Can Read, Too! Vocabulary Overview:

Vocabulary for Books 1, 2 & 3 includes:
The 63 core vocabulary words have been chosen for books 1, 2 & 3 will represent names, foods, actions, colors and opposites are common objects "things" found in your child's enviroment. Each single word is shown on average of 25 times each. Single core words are then paired with one another to create couplets which are shown on average 49 times each. Then you will introduce connector words (and, is, the) which will create three-word phrases and each phrase will be seen again on average of 25 times each.
12 Names : The first two are Mommy and Daddy and you choose the rest based on the names of family members, friends, favourite pets, etc.
12 Foods: milk, cheese, juice, pancakes, sandwich, banana, cookies, egg, toast, apple, popsicles, cereal
12 Actions: drinking, throwing, eating, jumping, reading, climbing, sleeping, running, walking, swimming, hopping, laughing
12 Colors: white, black, green, spotted, pink, yellow, brown, red, striped, purple, gray, blue
12 Opposites: happy, sad, little, big, cold, hot, on, off, in, out, over, under

Examples of Level III Challenger Sentences:
- Mommy is happy drinking the cold white milk.
- Name 5 is sleeping on the little spotted banana.
- Name 8 is running in the pink cereal and milk.
Vocabulary for Books 4, 5 & 6 includes:
The 34 core vocabulary words chosen for books 4, 5 & 6 will represent your child's belongings, common objects found in every household and opposite concepts. Each single word is shown individually an average of 25 times each. Single words are then paired with each other to make couplets and are shown approximately 50 times each. Then they are put into three-word phrases and each word is seen again approximately 25 times. When they are shown within the sentences provided, they have seen each word an average of 100 times!
12 Belongings: book, sweater, pillow, blanket, shoes, pajamas, ball, toothbrush, spoon, bowl, cup, boots
12 Environment: refrigerator, bathtub, door, bed, table, shelf, window, floor, chair, sink, lamp, picture

The 34 new vocabulary words chosen for books 7, 8 & 9 represent parts of the body, animals and opposites that most children would be familiar with. Each single word is shown individually an average of 25 times each. Single words are then paired with each other to make couplets and are shown approximately 50 times each. Then they are put into three-word phrases and each word is seen again approximately 25 times. When they are shown within the sentences provided, they have seen each word an average of 100 times!
